Mondays:

Pre-Natal Yoga

PreNatal YogaDesigned for women in their 1st or 2nd trimester of pregnancy, classes focus on building strength that will help with the labor process. As participants move through their stages of pregnancy, the moves are modified for each trimester. Basic breath work included in the class. Class cost is $3.00 for members and $5.00 for non-members.

Classes begin at 9:15 am, and run until 10:15 am.

Chi Kung/Tai Chi

This ancient art is a noncompetitive, self-paced system of gentle to intermediate level physical exercise. Participants will be completing a variety of movements and practices which enhance your internal chi (internal energy). Our instructor, Jim Thuline, works with students of varied levels and abilities from seated to standing.  Jim has been teaching Tai Chi for over 7 years and has been practicing the method himself for over 10 years.

Classes begin at 10:30 am, and run until 11:30 am.

Yogalates

A combination of Yoga and Pilates, this class is designed to allow participants to strengthen and lengthen muscles from the inside out. Your abs will become stronger as you learn how to support your back, stretch your muscles properly and, with time, loose inches from your waistline!

Classes begin at 12:00 pm, and run until 1:00 pm.

Overeaters Anonymous Starting Monday, May 18 the Mirror Lake Overeaters Annonymous group will be meeting at the JCC until October of this year. We are excited to host this amazing program! OA is not just about weight loss, gain or maintenance; or obesity or diets. It addresses physical, emotional and spiritual well-being. It is not a religious organization and does not promote any particular diet. If you want to stop your compulsive overeating, welcome to Overeaters Anonymous. This group welcomes people with any type of eating disorders; for more details about OA please visit thier website @ http://www.oa.org/. Classes begin at 12:00 pm, and run until 1:00 pm.

Knitting (1st & 3rd)

Come and learn to knit or work on a project with Sharon. She has over 50 years of knitting experience and is happy to help you get started on a set of needles. Sharon says, "it is good for new knitters to go by the yarn shop and pick out a project before they attend class, this way they have a goal in mind, which gives them a place to start." She recommends that beginning projects are scarves or hats. Marion Busby and Phyllis Orlan to teach in May.

Dynamic Senior Fitness @ PBT

We are excited that we are now offering this amazing Course at Philip Benjamin Tower - 250 58th Street North for the community.  Those interested in learning functional fitness techniques to strengthen their core muscles, create balance and improve flexibility can attend this class.  Our instructor has 25+ years experience as a Personal Trainer and Yoga Instructor, and Energy Medicine Practitioner.  A total mind, body and spirit workout! This is a chair based class but participants may stand as well.  Please bring a bottle of water with you to class.
Senior Members of the JCC and Philip Benjamin Tower Residents may participate in the class for Free!  For Community Members the cost is $5.00/Class.

ESPANOLITO

Children's Spanish Classes for ages 0-5 are always the best ages to learn a second language! When the learning is fun and interactive the children begin to use the second language easily in their daily lives. Espanolito uses songs, interactive games, and play with puppets, instruments, objects, etc. to teach Spanish. The class is between 30-40 minutes. Cost $8.50 per class or 5 classes for $37.00. Second child $7.00 per class or 2 children for $68.00 for 5 classes. Instructor: Dea Dea Huffstutler.

Glutes and Guts

Join Erika for a 45 minute fantastic workout and “work-in”!  She incorporates traditional core exercises, sports specific exercises, pilates, and yoga.  Our emphasis is equally on strength of the body using weights and body weight, and strength of the mind, always utilizing the amazing power of breath work.  Our Instructor Erika Phillips is a Master Personal Trainer and has been trained in Yoga and Pilates.

Classes begin at 5:45 pm, and run until 6:30 pm.

Espanolito for Adults!

Learning a second language can be fun and rewarding! Join us to learn Spanish in an interactive setting. Conversational Spanish could be key to employment, communication or an essential item on your resume for your next job interview. In just a few weeks you will be able to have an ear for Spanish and have a basic dialogue. The fear of speaking will be gone. There will be opportunities to practice what you learn in different aspects of your daily life throughout your participation of the class. Hoop Fitness

This class will help participants burn fat, strengthen and sculpt, yet still be able to return to work!

Classes begin at 12:30 pm, and run until 1:00 pm.

Jewish Friendly Boy Scouts - Troop 310

First through fifth graders are welcome to join Pack 310, a Jewish-friendly Boy Scout Troop! Pack meetings are held the 2nd and 4th Monday of the month at either the JCC or Congregation Beth Shalom. Call the Lisa at the JCC to register your son. Classes begin at 6:00 pm, and run until 7:30 pm.

Adult Children of Alcoholics/ Dysfunctional Families Adult Children of Alcoholics is a Twelve Step, Twelve Tradition program of women and men who grew up in alcoholic or otherwise dysfunctional homes. We meet with each other in a mutually respectful, safe environment and acknowledge our common experiences. We discover how childhood affected us in the past and influences us in the present ("The Problem"). We take positive action. By practicing the Twelve Steps, focusing on "The Solution", and accepting a loving Higher Power of our understanding, we find freedom from the past and a way to improve our lives today. Led by Bill S. No fees for attending, but donations are encouraged. Classes begin at 6:30 pm, and run until 7:30 pm.

Hip Hop

Want to be on the Dance floor instead of holding up a wall on the sidelines?  Instructor Brittney –Renee Sneed will be leading you in newest moves so you can hit the Dance Floor in style.  Class is canceled for Feb. 9, 2010, but will resume on Feb. 16.

Book It! (4th Wed)

Belong to the JCC book club and engage in lively discussions about the good, the bad and the ugly regarding the chosen book-of-the-month. This meets on the fourth Wednesday of the month at the JCC. Book It! members will select future readings and enjoy coffee and biscotti. The cost (per year) is $18 for JCC members and $36 for non-members. Children's Capoeira- Brazilian Martial Arts

This blend of martial art, game, and dance originated in Brazil. Participants form a roda (circle) and take turns playing instruments, singing, and sparring in pairs in the center of the circle. Cost: $10 for members per class or $13 for non-members per class or monthly rate of $34 for members or $44 for nonmembers. Please call the JCC for additional details and to register at 727-347-4522. Yoga

Using ancient methods to help de-stress and strengthen the body and mind.   Through a continuous flow of movement, participants will increase breathing capacity,  coordination and their ability to focus. Class ends with meditation, participants leave feeling rejuvenated, energized and ready to greet Thursday with a smile!

Adult Capoeira-Brazilian Martial Arts

Music with Mar

Through the use of music, parents can prepare their children for the future! Designed for the participation of child and parent, grandparent or caregiver, musical activities will have a positive impact on your child's overall development. Facilitated by Lisa Brave, Music with Mar is for children ages 6 months to 6 years old. Fees are $7/family or $30/5 classes Summertime special $50/10 classes, for use until September 2010.

Dynamic Senior Fitness This program is designed specifically for seniors to move in a flow of health and happiness that reduces pain in the joints while improving flexibility, memory and cardiovascular health. Classes are fun...anyone can do it! Our instructor, Yoga Rick, has over 25 years experience as a Personal Trainer and Yoga instructor. Class is chair-based but participants may stand, as well. Classes begin at 10:30 am, and run until 11:30 am.

Tea Dances

Do you like to Dance to Big Band Music from the 1940’s? GREAT! Relive the days of Glenn Miller, Tommy Dorsey and more! If you’re not sure which foot goes first in the Fox Trot or feel a bit rusty with your Waltz come out for the group lesson at 1:30pm. Not only will traditional ballroom styles such as the Waltz and the Foxtrot be taught, but also Latin styles such as Salsa, Cha Cha, Merengue, and Rumba. There is plenty of room on the dance floor as well as places to sit and have refreshments from Katz’s; cups of Coffee are still .25¢! Iinvite your friends and neighbors, singles and couples are welcome to at the Tea Dance! This program will be facilitated by Arleene Norman of Right Step Dance and Greg Richardson of Salsa with Greg.  Lessons are at 1:30 but the Dance starts at 2:00.

20/20/20 Go

Restorative Yoga

“Laura Be” is a graduate of St. Petersburg Yoga’s 200 hour training course.  Her innovative style will help you to relax, let go, and release muscle tension. This class is designed for new and experienced yoga students looking for a gentle and nurturing yoga practice.  This style of yoga will enable you to breathe deeper and allow its participants to calm and refresh their body and mind and gradually increase your flexibility, balance, and strength.

Cost: Members: $5.00/class OR $18.00/4 classes.

Pilates

What is core strength?  Accessing the deep layers of abdominal tissue and that support the low back, aid in proper posture and maintain stability in motion.  The instructor is trained in STOTT Pilates, and will modify poses to the needs of class participants.  Class ends guided relaxation
